This course introduces students to the knowledge, skills, and
attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely.
Through this course, students will learn about pistol parts and operation, ammunition, pistol
cleaning, NRA gun safety rules, pistol shooting fundamentals, and pistol shooting activities.
This course will also help prepare students for other NRA courses, such as the personal

Prerequisites: There are no formal prerequisites for this course; however, we recommend
that novice shooters take the NRA First Steps Pistol Orientation course or individualized
introductory instruction prior to enrolling in this course.

- Pistol knowledge and safe gun handling
- Ammunition knowledge and the fundamentals of pistol shooting
- Firing the first shots (benchrest, two-handed standing)
